This autumn we are once again taking part in the Santa Mònica Tuesdays of Video programme, with a special session that recovers the project ¿Cómo vivir en una zona de sacrificio? by Jose Iglesias García-Arenal, which we showed in the exhibition at the Panòpitc Festival in 2023. This project explores ‘sacrifice zones’ -places dedicated to the extraction of materials and energy, the production of goods or the reception of waste identified as unfit for life-, through a bridge between two very different territories but linked by historical processes of mining extraction: Extremadura and Southern Patagonia.
Over time, ¿Cómo vivir en una zona de sacrificio? has developed into a programme of artistic residencies organised by the author, through which he works with other artists to develop research and creation projects on technology and rurality. For this screening at the Santa Mònica we will be putting the research of some of these artists, such as Jara Rocha, Azahara Cerezo and Víctor Ruiz Colomer, into dialogue with the audiovisual matrix of Jose Iglesias García-Arenal. For more information you can visit the art centre’s website.
Tuesdays of video is Santa Mònica’s audiovisual programme with free and regular screenings every Tuesday at 7pm in the Sala Bar. This programme is curated by different external and internal groups from Santa Mònica who are periodically invited.
